First 1001 Days Movement – Autumn Budget 2024/ Spending Review

The First 1001 Days Movement has recently submitted its submission to the spending review as part of the Autumn Budget coming up on October 30th 2024.

The submission focuses on how the Government needs to ‘fix the foundations’ by investing in the first 1001 days. The key asks link back to our ‘Manifesto for Babies’ and include:

  1. Start for Life: An urgent ask to extend Start for Life funding, as the current funding is only guaranteed until 31st March 2025.
  2. Tackle child poverty: We also ask that the Government tackles child poverty by abolishing the two-child limit. This would help lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty.
  3. Health Visitors: We request more funding to help increase the number of Health Visitors who offer such vital support to families.
  4.  Paternity Leave : We would like an increase in statutory parental leave for fathers.

We believe that investing in these programmes will not only improve the life-chances of babies across the UK, but they can also form part of the long-term savings needed to rebalance the public finances towards prevention rather than more costly late interventions.
