Speak up for Babies

As part of Infant Mental Health Awareness Week (10th-16th June), and in the lead up to the General Election in July 2024, we asked MPs and candidates across the UK to show support for their youngest constituents and join our campaign to ‘Speak up for babies’.

At least one in ten babies experiences fear and distress due to disrupted relationships with their parent or main carer. Without help, these babies are more likely to develop mental health conditions in childhood.

Candidates and MPs who wanted to help change this took action by posting content via social media, visiting local services and using their voices to help explain the importance of supporting babies’ emotional well-being and development.

We were delighted that 86 candidates and politicians engaged positively with our campaign and agreed to ‘Speak up for Babies’. Almost 50 of these are now standing MPs and so we are working hard to engage further with this group, and other relevant new ministers to make sure they understand the importance of speaking up for babies.
