The Child in the Mother’s Mind: Mothers Object Relations Scales

The Mother Object Relationships Scales measure maternal representations of the infant. Distorted maternal representations have been associated with child abuse and neglect (e.g. Main & Goldwyn, 1984; Milner, 2000; Stratton & Swaffer, 1988; Lyons-Ruth, 1999) and post-natal depression (e.g. Field, Morrow & Adelstein, 1993; Murray, Kempton, Woolgar & Hooper, 1993).

In this webinar, the scales’ developer Professor John Oates describes the theory, development, uses and interpretation of the MORS scales. John Oates is Professor of Developmental Psychology at the Open University and is an internationally renowned researcher, lecturer, author and documentary maker.
