Advanced Parent-Infant Practitioner Training

Course details:

Who is this course suitable for?

The programme is suitable for:

  • experienced practitioners who are currently working with parents and babies from conception to two years and are looking to enhance their understanding of parent infant relationships.
  • a range of professionals including (but not exclusive to) midwives, health visitors, mental health practitioners, social workers and professionals with a recognised clinical accreditation in psychotherapy, psychodynamic counselling, psychology or arts therapies, through umbrella registering bodies such as UKCP, BPC, ACP, BPS, or BAC

If you are a professional with a recognised clinical accreditation, you may prefer to apply for our Diploma in Psychodynamic Parent-Infant Therapy, which will be advertised later in the year.  However, if you are unable to commit to the full Diploma and wish to apply for the Advanced Parent Infant Practitioner training instead, there is the option of completing additional components in order to obtain the Diploma. If you would like to discuss this further please email us at [email protected].

What are the core components of the training?

The training will provide an overview of parent-infant relationships and infant development drawing on psychoanalytic, attachment and neuroscientific theories.  The training is 12 months and will include:

  • Attendance at all our short courses
  • An onboarding seminar for new trainees
  • 9 teaching seminars
  • 3 reading seminars
  • 6 group supervisions
  • Dedicated reading weeks

Teaching days will be delivered online and be attended jointly with the Diploma in Psychodynamic Parent-Infant Therapy Trainees. Occasionally, there might be the possibility to meet in person at our offices in Kidlington, Oxford, but only if this is logistically possible for the group. We would not wish travel to preclude anyone from applying for this training.

What is expected of me as a trainee on this course?

You will be expected to:

  • participate in teaching seminars, work discussion groups and training days over a 12-month period
  • be working with parents and infants whilst undertaking the course

Is the training endorsed?
